A rescue operation is ongoing after a merchant vessel collided with a fishing boat off Manora Beach in the early hours of Friday, leaving four fishermen missing while seven others were safely rescued.

According to South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza, the incident occurred at around 2am in a channel managed by the Karachi Port Trust (KPT). A civil fishing boat identified as Al-Shahbaz was struck by a merchant vessel named Kang Huan.

DIG Raza stated that all fishermen onboard the fishing boat jumped into the sea after the impact, and the vessel subsequently capsized. Rescue efforts were immediately launched involving the Harbour Police Office (HPO), the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, and KPT authorities.

Seven individuals were rescued by another nearby fishing boat, while four fishermen remain missing. The survivors were transported from Keamari Jetty to hospital in Edhi ambulances.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson confirmed that their divers continued search operations throughout the day on Friday. However, the operation was suspended after nightfall and is scheduled to resume Saturday morning as authorities continue efforts to locate the missing fishermen.
