U.S. Navy Sinks 9 Iranian Ships & Destroys Naval HQ; Iran Strikes US and UK Tankers in Strait of Hormuz
The U.S. Navy has reportedly sunk nine Iranian naval ships and destroyed Iran’s Naval Headquarters, according to U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday. The offensive, which began on Saturday, also resulted in the deaths of approximately 48 top Iranian military and political leaders, marking a significant escalation in the U.S.-Israeli operation against Iran’s leadership and military infrastructure.
President Trump described the operation as “very positive,” stating that the U.S. forces were highly successful in their objectives. From the American side, three service members were killed, five seriously wounded, and several others sustained minor injuries.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that an Iranian warship was sunk while docked in the Gulf of Oman. In retaliation, Iran targeted three U.S. and U.K. tankers operating in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the intensifying tensions in this strategic maritime corridor.
One ship off Oman was struck by a projectile above the waterline, causing a fire in the engine room. The fire has since been controlled, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). In another incident, a missile hit a ship, sparking an onboard fire that has now been extinguished, allowing the vessel to continue its journey safely.
The private maritime security firm Vanguard Tech reported an additional attack on a tanker 17 nautical miles northwest of Mina Saqr, UAE. A projectile also exploded near a ship 35 nautical miles west of Sharjah. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and all crew members were safely rescued.
This series of strikes underscores the growing maritime security risks in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz, key routes for global oil and shipping traffic. Shipping companies and international traders are closely monitoring the situation as geopolitical tensions continue to impact maritime operations and global energy markets.
