Gwadar Fisherman Killed After Debris from Intercepted Israeli Projectile Hits Boat in Iranian Waters
A fisherman from Gwadar was killed after debris from an Israeli projectile intercepted by Iranian air defence systems struck his fishing boat in Iranian territorial waters, local officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on Saturday in waters near Sistan-Baluchistan Province, highlighting growing risks for fishermen operating near regional maritime zones amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Naqibullah Kakar confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased fisherman was identified as Muhammad Tayyab, a resident of Gannz.
District Police Officer Attaur Rehman also verified the incident and said that the fisherman had entered Iranian waters for fuel supplies.
Officials believe the projectile involved in the incident was launched as part of an attempted strike targeting fishing vessels in coastal areas of Iran. However, the projectile was intercepted by Iranian Air Defense Force, preventing a direct strike.
Deputy Commissioner Kakar explained that after the interception, fragments of the destroyed missile or drone fell into the sea. A portion of the debris struck Tayyab’s fishing boat, resulting in his death.

The incident underscores the growing security risks facing fishermen operating near sensitive maritime boundaries between Pakistan and Iran, particularly as regional military tensions and cross-border security incidents increase in nearby waters.
Authorities are continuing to gather further details about the event while local communities in Gwadar have expressed concern over the safety of fishermen operating in waters close to international maritime boundaries.
