Prime Minister Urges Fast-Tracking of Transport Infrastructure Projects in Dat Mui, Ca Mau

The Prime Minister made an aerial survey of Dat Mui commune, consisting of the islands of Hon Khoai, Hon Sao, Hon Go, Hon Doi Moi, and Hon Da Le, the largest island being Hon Khoai. The Dat Mui, especially Hon Khoai Island especially development was of particular strategic importance in socio-economic development, maritime security, and national defense, not only in Ca Mau and the Mekong Delta, but also in the entire country.
In the Dat Mui region, there are a number of large-scale infrastructure projects being undertaken, such as the Hon Khoai Island road, the Ca Mau – Cai Nuoc and Cai Nuoc – Dat Mui expressways, as well as the Hon Khoai dual-use general port. The Hon Khoai road is one that covers a distance of more than 18 km at a cost of VND 25,774 billion. The two expressway routes are 81 km in length with a total investment of approximately VND 60,000 billion, and the Hon Khoai port is priced at about VND 16,000 billion.
The land clearance process has been carried out to a great extent, whereby 1,646 households transferred over 700 hectares. Brigade 12, Brigade 11, General Corporation 319, and Lung Lo Construction Corporation have deployed more than 2,000 individuals and close to 1,000 machines. The project is going as planned, with disbursement of more than VND 14,000 billion, and it is projected to achieve 100 percent of the annual plan by the end of the year.
The Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, during a visit to the Hon Khoai road project site, complimented local people on their cooperation in the handover of land, and complimented construction teams in their twenty four hour work under harsh terrain and geological conditions to see to it that national development proceeded on time.
As a way of improving the economic value, the Prime Minister ordered more exchanges and rest spaces along the transport channels, particularly the Hon Khoai road, as a way of integrating the tourism development, which is to turn the infrastructure into tourism properties.
The Prime Minister also instructed the Ministry of Construction to speed up the completion of the Hau Giang,Ca Mau expressway section, aiming to complete it before January 31, 2026, to complete the linking of the north to south of the expressway between Cao Bang and Ca Mau and extend the reach to Dat Mui and Hon Khoai.
Based on the proposals by Ca Mau province, the Prime Minister endorsed solutions to mitigate coastal erosion and landslides through joint dike, road, and land reclamation through public/private partnerships development. He also endorsed the idea of constructing a transport connection between the places of the former provincial centers of Ca Mau and Bac Lieu.
