DP World Boosts India–Middle East Shipping Reliability with 5,000+ TEU Vessel Acquisition
Dubai, UAE –DP World has strengthened trade connectivity between India and the Middle East following the acquisition of a 5,000+ TEU container vessel, DP World Chennai, under its Marine Services arm, Shipping Solutions.
The vessel has been integrated into the company’s Red Sea–Gulf–India service, reinforcing schedule reliability and enhancing regional supply chain performance. Its maiden call at Jebel Ali Port marks Shipping Solutions’ owned capacity exceeding 6 million TEU, further consolidating DP World’s operational footprint across key markets.
Ganesh Raj, Global COO, Marine Services at DP World, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s ability to provide consistent and scheduled connections throughout the India–Middle East corridor. He emphasized that the move is not merely about increasing capacity, but about enhancing product flexibility and ensuring dependable cargo delivery in increasingly complex supply chains. According to Raj, reliability and adaptability remain central to customer confidence and competitive advantage.

The vessel purchase forms part of DP World’s broader strategy to build a more resilient and diversified logistics network through proprietary assets, continuous investment, and stronger integration between port and marine services. As trade volumes across the region continue to expand, the company aims to improve service consistency, planning predictability, and responsiveness to evolving customer needs.
Earlier this year, Shipping Solutions advanced to 15th position in Alphaliner’s global Top 50 carriers ranking, reflecting the growing strength of its network and customer partnerships.
In parallel, DP World has reaffirmed its commitment to India’s trade infrastructure with plans to invest $5 billion in the coming years. Shipping Solutions has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited (SMFCL), a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The collaboration will focus on developing and scaling sustainable coastal and shortsea shipping services across India.
