Kongsberg Maritime Signs MoU with PT PAL to Boost Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation in Indonesia

Kongsberg Maritime has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT PAL Indonesia, the country’s largest state-owned shipyard, to advance energy efficiency and decarbonisation in the maritime sector. The signing ceremony was held at PT PAL’s headquarters in Surabaya on February 26, 2026, and attended by representatives from both companies and the Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Krüger Giverin.

Kongsberg Maritime, a global leader in marine technology solutions, offers expertise in marine automation, navigation, propulsion, dynamic positioning, energy management, deck handling, and vessel design, enabling safer, more efficient, and sustainable operations worldwide.

This MoU marks the next phase of Kongsberg Maritime’s growing commitment to Indonesia’s maritime industry. In July 2025, the company expanded its national presence with two new offices in Jakarta and Batam to provide local sales, service, spare parts, and aftermarket support. The expansion aimed to strengthen customer engagement and deliver faster, more responsive support to Indonesia’s rapidly developing maritime landscape.

Wenche Andersen, Managing Director of APAC Service Management at Kongsberg Maritime, said, “Today’s signing begins a meaningful partnership with PT PAL, supporting Indonesia’s maritime ambitions while advancing shared goals for energy efficiency and decarbonisation. With our expanded presence and strong local foundation, we are committed to creating long-term sustainable value for shipowners and the wider maritime community.”

As Indonesia accelerates maritime modernisation and decarbonisation, partnerships with global technology leaders are essential. PT PAL is committed to delivering high-quality, future-ready vessels, and this cooperation will help integrate advanced energy-efficient and low-emission technologies into newbuilds and retrofits, strengthening Indonesia’s maritime capabilities and contributing to a sustainable industry.”

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation on energy-efficient and decarbonised maritime solutions for Indonesian vessel owners and operators. The partnership also aligns with a roadmap developed jointly with Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation during the establishment of Kongsberg Maritime’s local entity, reinforcing long-term sustainability goals.
