Mawani and Qatar Ports Sign MoU to Strengthen Regional Maritime Trade and Port Cooperation
The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and Qatar Ports Management Co. have signed a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing maritime and logistics cooperation to drive regional and international trade growth.
The agreement was signed by Mawani President Suliman Al-Mazroua and Qatar Ports Management Co. Security Technology Spotlight
Night operations across ports and offshore environments demand enhanced visibility. Ultra-X Night Vision Goggles are designed for low-light maritime monitoring, coastal surveillance, and tactical navigation support.

The cooperation aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Vision 2030 and Qatar’s Qatar National Vision 2030, reinforcing long-term economic diversification and infrastructure development goals in both countries.
Eight Key Areas of Maritime and Logistics Cooperation
Under the MoU, Mawani and Qatar Ports Management Co. agreed to collaborate across eight strategic areas. These include exchanging best practices in port management and operations, as well as exploring opportunities for direct maritime and land connectivity between Saudi and Qatari ports to enhance trade efficiency.
The agreement also covers expanded cooperation in logistics services and the potential establishment of joint maritime corridors to support bilateral and regional trade. Both parties will assess the feasibility of creating shared regional distribution centers to streamline supply chains and strengthen the Gulf’s role as a logistics hub.
Digital Transformation, AI, and Smart Port Systems
A major focus of the partnership is digital transformation and artificial intelligence in the maritime sector. The two sides will work together on smart port systems, data governance frameworks, and the development of a unified maritime window to enhance transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness.
By prioritizing advanced technologies and digital integration, Mawani and Qatar Ports aim to position their ports at the forefront of innovation in global maritime services.
Maritime Safety, Environmental Protection, and Compliance
The MoU places strong emphasis on maritime safety and environmental sustainability. Both organizations agreed to exchange expertise in marine pollution control and emergency response, develop joint maritime emergency plans, and establish a bilateral emergency communication line.
The partnership further promotes compliance with international maritime conventions, implementation of risk-monitoring systems, and the organization of joint exercises to strengthen preparedness and operational resilience.
In addition, the two sides expressed support for joint initiatives such as “Green Ports” and “Safe Sea Corridors,” reinforcing their commitment to sustainable and secure maritime operations across the region.
Human Capital Development and Joint Investment Opportunities
Cooperation will also extend to human capital development through joint training programs, on-the-ground expertise exchanges, and academic and research partnerships in maritime transport and logistics.
On the investment front, Mawani and Qatar Ports Management Co. will explore local and international opportunities in ports and related services. The agreement highlights coordination with the private sector to support new projects and expand maritime infrastructure capacity.
Boosting Gulf Integration and Maritime Competitiveness
The MoU also includes collaboration in cruise tourism through enhanced maritime connectivity and joint promotion of Gulf cruise routes. Additionally, both parties will coordinate their positions in international maritime organizations to support shared interests and regional initiatives.
This agreement reflects the commitment of Mawani and Qatar Ports Management Co. to strengthening the ports sector as a key driver of trade and economic growth.
