PNSC Inaugurates Modern West Wharf Workshop, Strengthening Pakistan’s Maritime Self-Reliance

The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) has inaugurated its newly developed West Wharf Workshop, marking a significant step forward in Pakistan’s maritime industry and technical self-sufficiency. The state-of-the-art facility reflects PNSC’s growing industrial capacity and long-term commitment to indigenous ship repair and engineering excellence.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Chairman PNSC Board Sultan Chawla as the Chief Guest, with Rear Admiral Jawad Ahmed SI (M) as Guest of Honour, alongside PNSC Chief Executive Officer Syed Jarar Haider Kazmi. Senior officials and stakeholders from the maritime sector were also in attendance.

The newly established West Wharf facility features modern workshops equipped for internal combustion engine afloat repairs, a dedicated radio and navigation shop, an advanced electronics laboratory, and ultrasonic thickness gauging (UTG) facilities. These capabilities will enable high-end vessel repair, maintenance, and refurbishment services under one roof.

According to PNSC officials, the upgraded workshop will significantly enhance in-house technical expertise, including certified life-raft testing, ultrasonic testing, radio and navigation diagnostics, and afloat repair operations. The facility is expected to support the national shipping fleet while positioning PNSC as a regional hub for maritime engineering services.

The development is also seen as a major boost to Pakistan’s economic resilience, as it will reduce dependence on foreign ship-repair yards, lower operational costs, and contribute to the country’s broader goals of maritime growth and self-reliance.
