Seascale Energy Marks Strong Growth Nine Months After Launch as Marine Fuel Procurement Platform
Nine months into operations, Seascale Energy has gained significant momentum as a marine fuel procurement platform focused on scale, transparency, and efficiency in the bunker industry. Launched in May 2025 as a joint venture between Cargill’s Pure Marine Fuels (PMF) and the Hafnia Bunker Alliance, Seascale Energy was created to offer a future-ready approach to marine fuel procurement.
Since its launch, the platform has demonstrated measurable progress in customer growth, operational performance, and capability development. All former members of both Bunker Alliances have continued their fuel procurement activities through Seascale Energy, reflecting growing trust and relevance within the global shipping community. The customer base has expanded with eight new clients, bringing the total membership to 53, enabling Seascale to participate in a broader range of contracts across multiple locations and unlock commercial opportunities through collective scale and reach.
A key early focus has been streamlining bunker claims management. Through harmonized processes, closer supplier collaboration, and improved data handling, Seascale Energy has reduced the number of claims raised by approximately 35% compared to pre-Seascale operations, while achieving a 75.6% claim collection ratio. The net USD value of unresolved claims remains minimal at USD 0.08 per metric tonne, underscoring Seascale’s disciplined approach to operational and financial risk management.
Seascale Energy has also expanded capabilities to meet regulatory changes and support the energy transition. During the first nine months, the platform facilitated purchases of LNG, biofuels in various blends (B4-B100), and green methanol for select customers. Partnerships with Lloyd’s Register provide ongoing technical guidance on low-carbon fuels and evolving regulatory frameworks, reinforcing Seascale’s commitment to credible and reliable fuel procurement solutions.
In addition to operational achievements, Seascale has strengthened its industry presence by participating in eight maritime events, speaking on five occasions, and hosting five customer webinars covering key regulatory topics, including EU maritime fuel regulations and RED III. The company is also a founding member of the Bunker Services Initiative (BSI) in the ARA region, promoting best practices and operational standards in marine fuel services.
Looking ahead, Seascale Energy aims to continue delivering value through scale, collaborative transparency, and expanded capabilities, helping its members navigate a rapidly changing marine fuel landscape while preparing for the future of sustainable and low-carbon shipping.
