Technip Energies Secures Major Contract to Progress Mozambique’s Second FLNG Project
Technip Energies has secured a significant new contract to advance Mozambique’s second floating liquefied natural gas project, Coral Norte FLNG, reinforcing momentum in the country’s expanding offshore LNG sector.
The French-based engineering and technology company, working in partnership with JGC Holdings Corporation and Samsung Heavy Industries, was awarded the contract by the Eni-led Mozambique Rovuma Venture. The award follows a previously announced early works agreement and confirms continued progress on the Coral Norte FLNG development.
While the financial terms were not disclosed, Technip Energies described the award as a “significant” contract, typically valued between €50 million and €250 million ($59 million to $295 million).
The Coral Norte project is advancing rapidly through early works and the implementation of a replica concept. A key milestone was reached on January 16 with the hull launch in Geoje, South Korea, marking tangible construction progress.
Coral Norte is designed as an enhanced replica of the successful Coral Sul FLNG project, leveraging the same feed gas composition and field location. By building on a proven design and integrating lessons learned from Coral Sul, the project aims to achieve de-risked execution, improved efficiency, increased LNG production capacity and optimized operational performance, delivering greater certainty and scalability.

Located approximately 55 kilometres offshore Cabo Delgado province, the Coral Norte project will develop, construct and operate a floating LNG facility with an annual production capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). Once operational, it will double Mozambique’s total LNG output to 7 mtpa.
The Eni-led development is expected to cost more than $7 billion, positioning Mozambique as a growing player in the global liquefied natural gas market while strengthening offshore energy infrastructure in East Africa.
