Türkiye, Malaysia Partner on $443m Shipyard Project in Malacca

Türkiye and Malaysia have agreed to establish a major joint shipyard in Malaysia’s southern state of Malacca, strengthening bilateral cooperation in the maritime and shipbuilding sectors.

The new facility, named Enrique of Malacca Shipyard, will be developed in collaboration with Turkish shipbuilder Desan Shipyard. Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh, who is currently in Türkiye as part of an official Malaysian delegation, visited Desan Shipyard to hold discussions on the project’s technical requirements and commercial structure.

According to Malaysia’s state news agency Bernama, the total investment in the shipyard is projected atUS$443 million.

The shipyard will be constructed along Malacca’s coastline, offering direct access to the Straits of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade corridors. The strategic location is expected to support shipbuilding, vessel maintenance, and a wide range of maritime services.

Covering an area of 9.42 hectares, the project will be developed as a joint venture involving SM-WEZ Corporation, a key organization within Malacca’s special economic zone, Henry the Black Shipyard Sdn Bhd, and Desan Shipyard.

The Enrique of Malacca Shipyard is scheduled to begin operations in 2028, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia–Türkiye maritime collaboration.
