VPS Launches Maress 2.0 to Drive Offshore Shipping Decarbonization and Efficiency
Maritime decarbonization legislation continues to intensify, placing growing demands on shipowners and operators to deliver transparent, traceable data demonstrating reduced carbon footprints and regulatory compliance. In response, Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) has upgraded its Maress software to version 2.0, enhancing fuel efficiency, emissions monitoring, and operational insights for offshore vessels.
Since its launch in 2016, the cloud-based Maress platform has helped over 700 offshore vessels reduce fuel consumption and emissions, providing financial, environmental, and strategic benefits without requiring hardware installation. Through annual campaigns from 2023 to 2025, participating vessels collectively cut thousands of tons of CO₂, with average efficiency improvements exceeding 10%. For instance, in the 2025 campaign, 300+ vessels from 12 shipping companies saved approximately 12,000 mt of CO₂, showcasing the impact of continuous optimization by vessel crews.
Maress 2.0 introduces advanced analytics, data validation, and vessel comparison tools, enabling operators to track individual vessel performance, benchmark fleets, and visualize energy usage across propulsion, engines, and thrusters. New features include voyage replay with weather integration, support for alternative fuels like biofuels, enhanced PDF export capabilities, and a dedicated Energy Analytics module. This allows operators to pinpoint inefficiencies, optimize generator setup, and reduce fuel consumption, translating data into actionable cost savings and improved operational performance.
As offshore shipping increasingly adopts AI-powered optimization tools like Maress 2.0 to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, the demand for professionals trained in artificial intelligence and digital maritime systems is rising rapidly.

Users can now compare multiple vessels side-by-side using spider charts, evaluate historical baselines, and monitor real-time operational modes (DP, Transit, Standby) to maximize efficiency. Personalized notifications alert crews to potential issues, ensuring compliance with EU MRV and other reporting standards while enhancing decision-making.
Industry leaders have praised Maress 2.0 for its intuitive interface, high-resolution analytics, and integrated fuel and emissions monitoring. Jon August Houge, Sustainability Director at Sea1 Offshore, noted, “Maress 2.0 provides a professional, one-stop solution for integrated fuel monitoring, reporting, and efficiency optimization, supported by VPS’s excellent guidance throughout the upgrade process.”
With Maress 2.0, VPS continues to empower offshore shipping operators to achieve meaningful decarbonization, operational efficiency, and compliance while future-proofing their fleets against evolving environmental regulations.
