PSA Singapore and MOL Partner to Launch Joint Venture Ro-Ro Terminal
PSA Singapore and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) have entered into a strategic collaboration to establish a joint venture roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) terminal in Singapore, marking a major step toward strengthening global automobile logistics and enhancing terminal service quality.
The partnership brings together PSA Singapore, operator of the world’s largest container transhipment hub, and MOL, one of Japan’s leading shipping companies, to jointly manage Ro-Ro terminal operations. By combining their respective strengths, the two companies aim to unlock operational synergies and support long-term growth in automobile transportation.
Singapore plays a critical role in global vehicle logistics as Southeast Asia’s largest automobile transhipment hub, offering extensive regional connectivity and a wide range of value-added services for vehicles moving from production centers to end markets. Through this joint venture, PSA Singapore and MOL will enhance terminal reliability and operational efficiency for MOL’s Ro-Ro services, while ensuring secure, long-term terminal capacity to meet rising automobile transport demand.
Nelson Quek, Regional CEO Southeast Asia at PSA International, said PSA has long been a cornerstone of global trade and a vital node in international supply chains. He noted that the partnership with MOL further strengthens PSA’s role by integrating its automobile terminal more deeply into the global logistics network, enabling seamless connectivity across the entire automobile logistics value chain and delivering sustainable, long-term value to customers.
Jotaro Tamura, Senior Managing Executive Officer of MOL, described the investment as a key element of the company’s regional strategy to expand beyond traditional shipping and grow its automobile logistics business. He said the joint venture combines the strengths of both companies to improve scale and efficiency, while also advancing sustainability and digital innovation. Tamura added that the collaboration reflects MOL’s commitment to stronger industry partnerships and the development of a more sustainable global supply chain.
Under the joint venture, MOL will leverage its extensive global service network, while PSA Singapore will contribute its long-established expertise as a terminal operator. Beyond terminal management, both companies plan to deepen cooperation across operational optimisation, digital innovation, and sustainability initiatives. These efforts align with PSA’s vision of building a synchronised, adaptive global network and with MOL’s long-term management plan, BLUE ACTION 2035, which focuses on strengthening global competitiveness and driving sustainable business growth.
