Qatar Suspends Maritime Navigation and Marine Activities as Precautionary Safety Measure
Qatar has temporarily suspended maritime navigation and all marine recreational activities across its waters as a precautionary measure aimed at protecting public safety amid ongoing regional security concerns.
In an official statement issued on Monday, Qatar’s Ministry of Transport directed all owners and operators of marine vessels, including recreational boats, fishing boats, jet skis, and similar watercraft, to immediately halt navigation and marine activities until further notice.
The ministry clarified that the temporary restrictions do not apply to commercial vessels operating under international maritime conventions. These ships will continue normal operations in accordance with established international regulations and maritime procedures.
Authorities stated that the decision was taken in close coordination with the country’s relevant security agencies and urged all vessel owners and the public to fully comply with the temporary safety measures.
The announcement follows an incident reported by Qatar’s Interior Ministry a day earlier involving a missing vessel. Marine search and rescue teams located the vessel during an overnight search operation in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the Interior Ministry, one Qatari citizen was found dead while another individual of Arab nationality sustained injuries. Officials said the deceased was struck by shrapnel resulting from military operations in the region.
