Pakistan Maritime Minister Calls for Economic Strength and Greater Trade on Independence Day
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has called for national unity, economic strength and increased trade to help build a strong, self-reliant and prosperous Pakistan.
Addressing an Independence Day ceremony at Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the maritime minister said every citizen had a role to play in the country’s development. He said Pakistan’s national resolve remained strong and stressed that “no one can cast an evil eye on Pakistan.”
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity while highlighting the sacrifices made for Pakistan’s independence. He said the younger generation must understand the immense sacrifices made during the struggle for freedom and recognize the value of the independence achieved by the nation.
The minister said economic strength, international trade and maritime commerce were essential to achieving true sovereignty. He stressed the need to expand regional trade and transshipment activities to strengthen Pakistan’s economy and enhance the country’s position in the regional maritime and logistics network.
Highlighting developments at the country’s major ports, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the progress achieved by Karachi Port and Port Qasim reflected the determination and hard work of their respective administrations. However, he said the focus should go beyond achieving records and should instead be on establishing new benchmarks in port performance, trade and maritime development.
“We must not just set records; we have to establish new benchmarks,” the minister said.
He reiterated that Pakistan’s ultimate objective should be to become a strong, self-reliant and prosperous country, with a stronger economy supported by trade, ports, shipping and regional connectivity.
KPT Chairman Rear Admiral (Retd) Shahid Ahmed also addressed the Independence Day ceremony and paid tribute to those who made sacrifices for Pakistan’s freedom.
He said the nation must never forget the sacrifices made during the independence struggle and should continue to uphold the values for which Pakistan was created.
