Pakistan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi and local partners to explore development of a maritime business district on prime Karachi Port Trust (KPT) waterfront land.
Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the MoU was signed between KPT, Saudi Business Council–NAJD Gateway Holding Company, Arif Habib Dolmen REIT Management Limited (AHDRML), and the Pakistan Corporate Consortium.
Pakistan and Bangladesh are exploring the launch of a ferry service and the establishment of a direct shipping line to enhance bilateral trade and tourism, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain Khan, in Islamabad. The two officials focused on strengthening maritime cooperation and boosting economic ties between the two countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that the visit of Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Islamabad would open new avenues for shared prosperity and strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations. President Tokayev’s visit marked the first official state visit by a Kazakh leader to Pakistan in 23 years, with the last visit occurring in 2003. During the visit, both leaders emphasized elevating relations to a strategic partnership, enhancing trade to a targeted $1 billion, deepening regional connectivity, and expanding cooperation across economic, defence, energy, digital, and people-to-people sectors.
