Port Qasim to Develop 400-Acre Modern Small Industrial Estate to Boost Maritime Economy

Port Qasim industrial estate development is set to reshape maritime investment Pakistan as the government moves forward with a 400-acre modern industrial zone backed by the Port Qasim Authority and supported by shipping cost reduction policies. The initiative reflects a broader Karachi port development strategy aimed at strengthening logistics, trade infrastructure, and investor confidence in Pakistan’s maritime sector.

During a visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry highlighted that the Port Qasim industrial estate will follow a new model where fully developed infrastructure is delivered before plot allocation. This approach, aligned with maritime investment Pakistan goals, ensures that investors receive ready-to-use facilities including road networks, utilities, and landscaped industrial zones instead of undeveloped land.

The minister emphasized that infrastructure readiness will include main boulevards, essential utilities, and modern planning standards to attract both local and international stakeholders. This shift is expected to significantly enhance Karachi port development and position Port Qasim as a competitive industrial and logistics hub in the region.

In a parallel move to strengthen maritime competitiveness, port charges have been reduced by up to 60%, a major shipping cost reduction aimed at attracting global shipping lines and boosting trade throughput. The decision is expected to increase vessel traffic and improve Pakistan’s standing in international shipping markets.

Further reinforcing this development push, the Port Qasim Authority board has approved a Rs35 billion budget for the Eastern Zone, where infrastructure work will begin soon. This large-scale investment underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating maritime investment Pakistan and expanding industrial capacity around key ports.

Meanwhile, Karachi Port continues to show strong performance in the bunkering sector, having already serviced over 100 vessels. According to officials, this segment alone is projected to generate business worth billions of rupees within the next two years, contributing to overall Karachi port development and strengthening Pakistan’s maritime economy.
