Two Pakistan Navy Personnel Martyred During Sea Patrol for Maritime Security
Two Pakistan Navy personnel were martyred while patrolling at sea to ensure maritime security, the Navy’s Directorate-General of Public Relations (DGPR) said on Wednesday. The development comes as Pakistan continues efforts to protect national shipping, maritime trade and critical sea lanes amid an evolving regional maritime security environment.
“Shoaibur Rehman (PMA-IV) and Ghufran Nasar (PMT-II) embraced martyrdom while performing patrolling duties at sea to ensure security,” the DGPR said in a statement on X.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the two sailors. Senior Pakistan Navy officials attended the funerals of the martyred personnel and met their families, according to the statement.
In March this year, the Pakistan Navy launched Operation Muhafizul Bahr to counter “multidimensional threats to national shipping and maritime trade.”
According to the Pakistan Navy, the decision followed the launch of the US-Iran war and was taken in light of the “evolving regional maritime security environment and potential disruptions to critical sea lanes.”
The Pakistan Navy said approximately 90 per cent of Pakistan’s trade is conducted via sea. The operation therefore aims to ensure that vital sea routes remain safe, secure and uninterrupted.
