US-Iran Talks Continue Despite Reports of Negotiation Suspension, Trump Says

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that negotiations with Iran remain ongoing despite reports indicating that Tehran had suspended indirect discussions with Washington aimed at easing regional tensions and ending hostilities.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran were continuing at a rapid pace, signaling that diplomatic engagement between the two sides remains active despite escalating geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East.

Earlier, Iran’s state news agency Tasnim reported that Tehran had halted indirect negotiations with the United States following Israel’s order for troops to push deeper into Lebanon, a move that has heightened concerns over regional security, energy supply routes, and maritime stability.

Speaking in telephone interviews with media outlets after the report emerged, Trump said the United States had not received any official notification from Iran regarding a suspension of talks.

According to Trump, Iranian authorities had not informed Washington of any decision to stop negotiations. He added that a period of silence between both sides would be acceptable and that the United States was prepared to wait if necessary.

Trump further suggested that extensive dialogue may not always be beneficial, noting that a prolonged pause in communications could also be constructive.

Addressing the implications of a potential breakdown in negotiations, Trump said that a suspension of talks would not automatically lead to U.S. military strikes against Iran. However, he emphasized that the existing U.S. blockade of Iranian ports would remain in effect.

In separate remarks, Trump indicated that he would not be concerned if negotiations ultimately came to an end. However, shortly after those comments were reported, he reiterated through social media that discussions with Iran were still continuing.

The conflicting signals surrounding the negotiations come at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions across the Middle East, with global shipping markets, maritime trade stakeholders, energy traders, and port operators closely monitoring developments due to the region’s strategic importance to international energy exports and key maritime transportation routes.
