Coast Guard Searches for Missing Boater after Vessel Overturns near Conneaut, Ohio
The U.S. Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching for a 73-year-old man who entered the water after a 22-foot vessel overturned approximately nine miles offshore near Conneaut, Ohio, on Wednesday.
Coast Guard Sector Eastern Great Lakes watchstanders received notification of the overturned vessel at 10:50 a.m. Three people entered the water following the incident. A Good Samaritan rescued two of the boaters, who were reportedly uninjured and in good health.
The maritime search and rescue operation involves multiple Coast Guard and local agencies. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit has deployed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, while Coast Guard Station Fairport is participating with a 29-foot Response Boat-Small boatcrew. Coast Guard Station Erie is also assisting with a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ashtabula County Dive Team and Conneaut Fire Department are also involved in the search for the missing boater.
The coordinated response brings together Coast Guard aviation, marine response units and local emergency agencies as the search continues for the 73-year-old man.
The U.S. Coast Guard has not provided additional details regarding the cause of the vessel overturning or the condition of the missing boater. Further information will depend on developments in the ongoing search and rescue operation.
