Devonport Dockyard Recruitment Drive: Over 100 New Jobs in Major UK Naval Infrastructure Expansion

More than 100 new recruits are being sought for the next phase of a major UK defence infrastructure and shipyard expansion project at Devonport Dockyard, as part of a long-term investment in naval maintenance and submarine support capabilities.

The new recruitment drive comes as construction progresses on state-of-the-art dry dock facilities designed to support the maintenance of the Royal Navy’s Astute-class submarines, strengthening the UK’s maritime defence infrastructure and naval engineering capacity.

The UK government has committed £4.4 billion investment into the naval base and Babcock’s Devonport Royal Dockyard over the next decade. Operations at the site have also been secured through until 2070, ensuring long-term stability for one of the country’s most important shipbuilding and naval maintenance hubs.

Shipyard Jobs and Defence Construction Recruitment

The Kier BAM Joint Venture (JV) is currently recruiting for a range of roles, including engineers, site supervisors, and administrative staff as part of the ongoing dockyard expansion and maritime construction programme.

In total, around 2,000 construction workers will be employed to deliver the infrastructure development, while a further 5,500 jobs will support ongoing operations over the next ten years. The project also includes the creation of hundreds of apprenticeships, supporting skills development in the UK’s marine engineering and defence workforce sector.

Plymouth Recognised as Defence Growth Area

Plymouth has been identified as one of five key national defence growth areas in the UK Defence Industrial Strategy, a designation local leaders have described as marking “a new era for Plymouth” in terms of defence industry investment and maritime economic development.
