
Pakistan Calls for Chinese Investment in Ports, Logistics and Gwadar to Strengthen Regional Maritime Trade
Pakistan has invited Chinese companies to expand investment in its ports, logistics, shipping and maritime infrastructure, as the government accelerates efforts to position the country as a leading regional transit trade, logistics and industrial hub.
Speaking at the Regional Transit Trade Hub Initiative in Beijing, organized by Jiang Tonland International Holdings, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the longstanding Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Partnership is entering a new phase focused on enhanced connectivity, trade facilitation, logistics, industrial development and sustainable economic growth.
The minister highlighted the rapid transformation of the global maritime and trade landscape, noting that digitalization, smart logistics, resilient supply chains, green shipping and multimodal transport are reshaping international commerce. He emphasized that stronger regional cooperation and innovation will be essential to capturing future trade opportunities.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said Pakistan’s strategic geographic location makes it a natural gateway linking regional and international markets. He added that key maritime institutions,including the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Port Qasim Authority (PQA), Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) and the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC),are implementing reforms aimed at developing world-class port infrastructure, efficient logistics networks and modern maritime services to support regional trade.
According to the minister, the Regional Transit Trade Hub Initiative aligns closely with Pakistan’s economic development strategy by creating opportunities for cooperation in port modernization, multimodal transport corridors, logistics parks, industrial infrastructure, maritime services, digital trade facilitation and value-added logistics.
Highlighting the strategic importance of Gwadar Port, Chaudhry described it as the flagship maritime project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said the port offers significant investment opportunities in port operations, warehousing, logistics, free zone development and maritime industries, making it a key gateway for regional trade and supply chain connectivity.
The minister invited Chinese enterprises to participate in these sectors, assuring investors that Pakistan remains committed to providing a transparent, business-friendly and investment-friendly environment while supporting long-term partnerships that deliver mutual economic benefits.
He also expressed appreciation to Jiang Tonland International Holdings for bringing together government officials and business leaders to promote regional connectivity, trade cooperation and cross-border investment.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral economic relations with China, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry called for deeper collaboration to build a more connected, resilient and prosperous future through expanded maritime trade, logistics investment and infrastructure development.
