Maersk Sets $2,000 Peak Season Surcharge for Far East Asia–Pakistan and India Shipments
Maersk is revising its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments from Far East Asia to Pipavav, Jawaharlal Nehru and Mundra in India, as well as Pakistan. The revised shipping surcharge will take effect from 15 September 2026 for the specified origins, while shipments originating from South Korea will be subject to the revised PSS from 18 September 2026. The new rates will remain in effect until further notice.
The revised container shipping rate applies to cargo originating from China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Hong Kong China, Taiwan China, South Korea and Timor-Leste and destined for Pipavav, Jawaharlal Nehru, Mundra and Pakistan.
Under the revised tariff, the charge is USD 2,000 for ALL 40 containers and USD 2,000 for 45HDRY containers. The surcharge applies to the specified trade scope and will remain applicable until Maersk announces a further revision.
For non-SPOT bookings, the above rate is retrieved based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD). For non-FMC shipments, PCD refers to the scheduled departure date of the first water leg at the time of booking confirmation for non-spot bookings.
For FMC shipments, Maersk states that the PCD for non-spot bookings is the last container gate-in date. The company has also clarified that the Peak Season Surcharge is not applicable to SPOT bookings.
The surcharge will be collected on a freight-paid basis.
Maersk has advised customers that the latest levels and rate structures can be checked through its Tariff Lookup. The applicable rates are also subject to other charges, including local charges and contingency charges.
The announced rates are unaffected by, and do not affect, any tariff that has been notified, published or filed in accordance with applicable local regulatory requirements.
For trades subject to the US Shipping Act or China Maritime Regulations, quotations or surcharges that differ from the Maersk tariff will not be binding on Maersk unless they are included in a service contract or service contract amendment filed with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, as applicable.
The revised Maersk Peak Season Surcharge will remain in effect until further notice, meaning shippers and freight forwarders using the affected routes should refer to the latest Maersk tariff information when calculating applicable freight costs and confirming bookings.
