New Zealand’s Iconic Boat Show Celebrates 70 Years of Boating, Fishing and Marine Lifestyle
New Zealand’s longest-running boating exhibition is preparing for a landmark celebration as the iconic Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show marks 70 years of connecting generations of boating enthusiasts, anglers, marine businesses and coastal adventurers.
Set to return to the Auckland Showgrounds from 14–17 May 2026, the internationally recognized marine event will celebrate seven decades of New Zealand’s deep-rooted boating and fishing culture while showcasing the latest innovations in recreational boating, marine equipment and offshore lifestyle products.
Since its launch in the 1950s, the show has evolved alongside New Zealand’s strong maritime heritage. What began as a modest gathering of small boats and local boating enthusiasts has transformed into one of the South Pacific’s leading marine expos, attracting thousands of visitors each year from across the boating, fishing and marine tourism sectors.
The 2026 edition will not only spotlight the newest marine technology, fishing gear and luxury boat displays, but also pay tribute to the history and community that built the event into a national institution for Kiwi boaters.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary, organizers will introduce several special attractions, including a curated showcase of classic and heritage vessels that trace the evolution of boating in New Zealand. Visitors will also experience a one-off Boat Show Movie Theatre featuring historic footage and memorable moments that have shaped the country’s marine lifestyle over the decades.
Special anniversary prizes and giveaways will be offered throughout the four-day event, recognizing the loyal boating and fishing community that has supported the show for generations. Organizers are also placing renewed emphasis on the people behind New Zealand’s boating culture, from offshore fishers and family cruisers to marine industry professionals and weekend recreational boaters.
Helen Kay said the anniversary represents far more than a milestone for the marine industry.
“The milestone is as much about community as it is about boats. This show has always been more than what’s on the water , it’s about the people who live for it. Seventy years on, that passion is stronger than ever,” she said.
For many New Zealanders, the event has become a tradition deeply connected to coastal living, recreational fishing and outdoor adventure. From early morning fishing trips targeting snapper to extended coastal voyages and family weekends on the water, the show continues to reflect a uniquely Kiwi maritime lifestyle centered around the ocean and time spent together.
With global interest in marine tourism, recreational boating and fishing experiences continuing to rise, the 70th edition of the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show is expected to attract significant attention from both local and international marine industry audiences in 2026.
