Pakistan Ports Connectivity and Maritime Infrastructure Development Discussed with Chinese Engineering Company
Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure and ports connectivity development gained further momentum as Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry held discussions with a leading Chinese engineering company regarding railway electrification projects, port logistics infrastructure, smart transportation systems and CPEC-related transport development.
During his official visit to China, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry met Li Lei, Vice President of China Railway Electrification Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (EEB), in Beijing to explore opportunities for strengthening Pakistan ports connectivity, maritime infrastructure Pakistan, and regional trade networks under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
China Railway Electrification Engineering Group (EEB) is among China’s leading engineering companies specialising in railway electrification, urban transit systems and large-scale transport infrastructure projects. The company has extensive expertise in developing advanced transportation solutions and modern infrastructure networks.
During the meeting, both sides discussed potential cooperation in railway electrification projects, port connectivity, logistics infrastructure, smart transportation systems and strategic transport initiatives aimed at supporting Pakistan’s maritime economy and improving links between seaports and inland economic corridors.
Federal Minister Junaid Chaudhry stated that collaboration with international engineering companies would contribute to the development of efficient, resilient and technology-driven transport networks connecting Pakistan’s ports with major economic regions. He highlighted that improved port logistics infrastructure and sustainable transport systems would enhance Pakistan’s trade competitiveness and strengthen its role in regional commerce.
The minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing Pakistan’s ports, developing sustainable infrastructure and attracting foreign investment in maritime and transport sectors.
The EEB leadership expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities and technical cooperation in Pakistan. The company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s infrastructure development through innovative engineering solutions and international partnerships.
Both sides agreed to enhance institutional coordination and identify priority projects related to railway electrification, smart transportation systems, port logistics and maritime connectivity.
The Federal Minister also invited Li Lei to visit Pakistan to examine potential investment opportunities and infrastructure projects. Li Lei accepted the invitation and expressed EEB’s interest in expanding its cooperation and engagement in Pakistan.
The proposed collaboration is expected to support Pakistan’s broader vision of strengthening its maritime economy, improving supply chain efficiency, enhancing port connectivity and developing modern transport infrastructure aligned with regional trade growth.
